Choose the correct postage service on eBay.
Whether a seller selects their postage services in the listing flow or via postage policies, it’s
important they select the correct service.
If a seller is using one of the below carriers, they should select this postage option in their
listings.
● Australia Post
● Aramex (formerly Fastway)
● Couriers Please
● DHL
● Sendle
● StarTrack
● TNT
● Toll Consumer Delivery
If a seller is selling Alcohol, they need to select one of the below postage services.
● Standard Delivery with Age Verification
● Express Delivery with Age Verification
If a seller is using a freight carrier to send their items, we recommend selecting the postage
service called Freight: large and bulky items.
If a seller isn’t using one of the above services or they are using a shipping aggregator, there
are some generic postage services available.
These include:
● Standard Parcel Delivery
● Express Parcel Delivery
● Courier (Tracked)
The generic services should only be selected if the seller’s postage carrier is not listed and they
are not selling alcohol or posting with a freight carrier.
Importance of the correct postage service
Setting expectations with buyers of what to expect from their delivery is important. It allows
buyers to know what carrier is delivering their item and whether to expect tracking information or
not.
The postage service selected in the item’s listing is used to determine the estimated delivery
date. For tracked services, estimated delivery dates are determined by using an algorithm to
provide a delivery date range to buyers, giving them certainty about when their order will arrive.
The algorithm uses a variety of factors to determine the estimated delivery date including item
location, buyer location, postage service and seasonality.
Choosing multiple postage services
Where possible, we recommend providing multiple postage services to provide buyers choice.
Offer an express delivery service
Offer free postage on standard delivery and set a reasonable cost for an express service. A
requirement of eBay Plus is offering an express option for metro areas. Receive up to $4 from
eBay towards the cost of express postage upgrades for items over $15 and receive up to $2.50
from eBay for items under $15 (Plus metro orders only).
Offer a tracked service in addition to an untracked service
We understand it can be more economical for sellers to send items via the untracked letter
service. Adding a tracked letter service option as an upgrade at a cost to the buyer gives the
buyer choice on how they want their item to be sent.
