From 7th February 2022, eBay will begin to hold funds for reasons related to tracking information. If sellers don’t upload valid tracking for at least 95% of their trackable orders, their payments will be placed on hold.
This will work as follows:
First, eBay will check to see which postage service you selected for the item.
If you selected a tracked service, they will look for a valid tracking number to be uploaded once the item is sent within your stated handling time.
- If you upload a valid tracking number, the funds for that order will be held until there is a tracking scan from the carrier showing the item is on its way to the buyer.
- If you choose not to upload a tracking number, the funds for that order will be held until 3 days after the latest estimated delivery date has passed.
If you selected an untracked service, tracking payment holds won't apply to orders where the selected delivery option is one of the following options:
- Local pickup - note that Omnivore / eBayLINK does not support this option
- Click & Collect from the retailer
- Australia Post Domestic Regular Letter Untracked service
In order to avoid potential issues with payment holds it is important that you select the correct carrier and shipping service you will be using. This also means buyers can determine how their order will be delivered and an accurate estimated delivery time will be shown to them, which can help reduce item not received buyer enquiries.
To change the shipping service used for a shipping policy on eBay:
1. Log into your eBay account.
2. Go to your Business Policy page - https://www.bizpolicy.ebay.com.au/businesspolicy/manage
3. Click Edit against the relevant Postage Policy you wish to change the service used on.
4. In the Domestic Postage section click on the dropdown arrow on the right-hand side of the Services box for the service you want to change.
5. You will see a list of the carriers and services available for you to select. Scroll down to see additional options such as Couriers Please, Sendle etc. Note the expected delivery time for each service. This is used in conjunction with your handling time settings to display an estimated delivery date to your buyers.
6. Select the relevant service you will be using to ship the item/s.
7. Click Save at the bottom of the page.
Any listings using this service will now show the updated shipping service and estimated delivery date in the Postage section of the listing e.g.
You will then need to ensure that for all services apart from
- Local pickup - note that Omnivore / eBayLINK does not support this option
- Click & Collect from the retailer
- Australia Post Domestic Regular Letter Untracked service
you upload tracking details to eBay to avoid potential payment holds.
